How To Care For Your Jewellery

Now you've found your perfect jewellery, give it some TLC with our range of cleaning products!

General Tips

When it comes to looking after jewellery, we follow the mantra:
"Make it the last thing you put on, and the first thing you take off"

  • Always put your jewellery on AFTER perfume, hairspray, fake tan & make up.
  • Try your best to keep your special jewellery pieces in a cloth bag away from air exposure, as this can help jewellery tarnish faster.
  • Don't wear your jewellery in the shower, when doing washing up, or exercising.
  • Treat your jewellery well, and it will make you feel like a VIP!

Sterling Silver Products

Sterling silver is a great material to use for jewellery making, we love it so much we even named our business after it!

Anything from our exclusive Argento range is crafted with sterling silver at its base. Sterling silver is made with 92.5% sterling silver, the other 7.5% is created with a mixture of other metals, including copper. If you're in doubt as to whether your jewellery is sterling silver, look out for the 925 hallmark. This should be stamped on any jewellery crafted with the material.

It is perfectly natural for sterling silver jewellery to tarnish or become dull. To bring your jewellery back to life, a silver cleaning cloth can be used as a simple and cost-effective way to make your jewellery dazzle.

Gold plated sterling silver

Glistening and gorgeous, our gold-plated jewellery is created with 925 silver, and a gold plating at various carat degrees, depending on the piece. Gold plated jewellery often turns silver after excessive rubbing, so we recommend taking your gold-plated jewellery off at the end of the day, and before you shower or exercise to preserve the gold plating.

To delicately clean your gold-plated jewellery, we recommend using the Connoisseurs Jewellery Beauty Cloth Wipe, as its fine texture is perfect to clean your jewellery without excessive rubbing.

Since gold plating is a more delicate finish, we do not recommend using Argento cleaning cloths as the cloth contains mild abrasives and cleaning agents designed to bring the shine out of silver.

Nomination

As you may know, Nomination's bestselling composable charm collection all have a stainless-steel base.

Stainless steel is popular for use in jewellery products as it won't tarnish the same way sterling silver does, as well as this it is a hypoallergenic material.

Though it may not tarnish the same way as silver does, you may find you need to clean your bracelet from time to time - especially in between the links on your bracelet!

This polishing cloth can also be used on Nomination jewellery with a sterling silver base - making it an ideal accessory for any Nomination fan!

Swarovski polishing cloth

Swarovski

No one does sparkle quite like Swarovski! To keep your pieces gleaming for as long as possible, Swarovski now sell two cleaning cloths - one for rhodium-based products, and one for gold-based products.

As Swarovski products are crafted without sterling silver, we recommend you use the below cloths, rather than a traditional silver cleaning cloth.

You can also use an old toothbrush and some warm water to clean around the Swarovski crystals found in the products - just be careful not to use too much water, and dry your jewellery as quickly as possible.

Gemstones & Crystals

To keep your sparkly pieces looking fabulous we recommend using the Connoisseurs Diamond Dazzle Stick.

This unique pen brush is specially designed to clean your jewellery, especially in between and behind crystals, stones and diamonds - simply twist, brush and dazzle!

To give your piece the perfect finish, use the Connoisseurs jewellery beauty wipes as a finishing cloth. These dry wipes are suitable for cleaning silver, gold, platinum and steel jewellery - can also be used on diamonds and other stones.

Connoisseurs watch cleaning cloth

Watches

Along with your jewellery, watches can often need a little help to look brand new.

For your stainless-steel timepieces, we recommend using Connoisseur’s watch cleaning cloth to help lift any tarnish from your watch. Use the white side of the cloth to remove dirt from your bracelet strap and case and use the dark side to polish your watch for a dazzling finish.

Do not use this product on leather straps. To protect your leather, we recommend using a leather protector spray or balm. Apply any leather protection product only onto leather components, not on metal components.

We also recommend softly cleaning your watch with a soft bristle toothbrush and warm soapy water. Cleaning your watch with a toothbrush is a great way to properly clean between bracelet links.

Costume Jewellery

Costume jewellery tends to be made with materials such as brass and can be very susceptible to tarnishing.

When wearing costume jewellery please remember not to wear before applying perfume, fake tan or hairspray. Do not get your costume jewellery wet, do not wear while cleaning. You should be especially careful with costume rings - always remove before washing your hands.

To clean your costume jewellery, we recommend softly cleaning your pieces with a soft bristle toothbrush and warm soapy water. Using a toothbrush allows you to clean finer details in a gentle manner. Dry your jewellery soon after cleaning to ensure it does not tarnish from water exposure.

To maximise the lifespan of your costume jewellery, we recommend storing in a jewellery box or a cloth bag, away from direct sunlight.
